The People’s Alliance is commencing its fundraising efforts ahead of the 2026 elections, aiming to collect $200,000 to assist supporters in reaching polling venues. The initial fundraiser was recently held at the Labasa Civic Centre, garnering significant backing from communities throughout Vanua Levu.

Mitieli Batisaresare, a member of the fundraising committee, acknowledged that transportation issues previously hindered voter turnout in the last election, stating, “One of the challenges we saw in the last elections was fewer people turning up to polling venues because of transport issues.” He emphasized that the proceeds from this initiative would directly support voters with travel expenses as they approach the upcoming election period.

Plans are in place for additional fundraising events in the Cakaudrove and Bua provinces, with potential expansion of the campaign to Viti Levu to enhance outreach. This proactive move reflects a broader strategy mirrored by other political entities, including parties like Unity Fiji, which is also working to improve voter engagement and address issues of transport and accessibility as they gear up for the elections.

This concerted effort by the People’s Alliance, in conjunction with other political parties’ initiatives, showcases a shared commitment toward fostering a more inclusive electoral process in Fiji. By directly addressing logistical barriers such as transport, these initiatives epitomize a hopeful and progressive approach to enhancing voter participation and strengthening the democratic process for all citizens.
