Residents, staff, and guests of Pearce Home in Butt St, Suva, gathered on October 7 to celebrate a meaningful occasion that combined three important events: the International Day for Older Persons, Fiji Day, and Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday. This gathering highlighted the community’s respect and appreciation for the elders of Fiji while also commemorating significant milestones of faith and national pride.
The celebration commenced with the ceremonial cutting of a ribbon, inaugurating the Home’s newly completed office, a project made possible through the dedicated efforts of Westpac Bank volunteers. This new facility is expected to streamline administrative services and enhance both staff and resident experiences.
Following this, attendees participated in a blessing ceremony for the newly constructed Peace Garden, a tranquil space designed for reflection, relaxation, and community harmony, funded by Peter Mazey, the executive chair of the Fiji National Sports Commission. The garden symbolizes gratitude within the Pearce Home community.
Guests then enjoyed a special lunch, featuring chicken palau donated by Maulana Fayaz Khan and the family of Aisha Learning Centre in Koronivia. This meal also served to commemorate Prophet’s Day, which had been observed in September.
During the event, Mohammed Hassan Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and supporters, emphasizing their essential roles in improving the lives and well-being of Fiji’s senior citizens. This focus on community support is in line with broader initiatives across Fiji, promoting respect, dignity, and active engagement for the elderly. Such events not only uplift the spirits of the older generation but also foster a culture of caring and compassion throughout society.
As Fiji continues to make strides in advocating for senior citizens, gatherings like these symbolize a hopeful vision for a future where the elderly are warmly embraced and remain active contributors to their communities.
