Clothes for Good, a local nonprofit organization focused on promoting pre-loved clothing, has made a generous donation of $1,000 to the SPCA Fiji Islands. This funding will be instrumental in constructing a new outdoor enclosure for the shelter’s feline residents.
The donation will assist in enhancing the SPCA’s facilities, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for the cats, allowing them to thrive. The newly planned outdoor area will offer the cats exposure to sunlight and a more natural setting, which is essential for their well-being. Additionally, this enclosure will help the shelter accommodate the increasing number of animals in need of care.
Operating out of Nabua and Lami, Clothes for Good is Fiji’s pioneering preloved clothing store that reinvests all profits back into the community, supporting various local charities and initiatives. Founder Hayden Ostrom-Brown expressed his pride in collaborating with the SPCA to make improvements that benefit the shelter.
Ostrom-Brown emphasized the impact of shopping at their stores, stating, “Every time someone shops at our stores, they’re not just purchasing clothing—they’re raising important funds for local organizations in need.” He also noted that this donation marks the beginning of a longer-term partnership with the SPCA.
The SPCA Fiji Islands, which often faces resource constraints, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support. A representative from the SPCA mentioned that this contribution would significantly uplift their facilities and enhance the lives of the animals they look after, while hoping it would inspire other businesses to contribute as well.
Ostrom-Brown, who is also the CEO of Call Centre My Kora, called on other businesses to take initiative in addressing Fiji’s stray animal crisis. He remarked, “If more businesses step forward, we can provide better lives for these beautiful animals.”
The SPCA plays a crucial role in alleviating the issues related to stray animals through various programs, including desexing initiatives, life-saving surgeries, and rehoming efforts.
This story highlights the positive ripple effect that community-minded businesses can create. By coming together to support local initiatives, they not only improve the conditions for vulnerable animals but also inspire a culture of caring and community support.
