The spirit and legacy of one of Fiji rugby’s most revered referees will be honored at this year’s McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. The prestigious Patrick Gock Medal will be awarded to the referees officiating the Youth, Women’s, and Men’s Finals, serving to acknowledge excellence during the tournament’s most critical moments.

Crafted from glass, the medal signifies clarity, integrity, and excellence—qualities embodied by Patrick Gock throughout his esteemed career in rugby and refereeing in Fiji. Gock, who sadly passed away in 2025, was not only a skilled referee but also a mentor and administrator whose guidance helped shape the careers of many officials over the years.

Tournament organizers emphasize that Gock’s unwavering commitment to fairness, discipline, and the true spirit of rugby remains a guiding influence for current and future referees. “Presenting the Patrick Gock Medal at the Finals each year ensures his legacy lives on where it matters most,” they remarked.

Born in 1966, Gock is remembered for his contributions both on and off the field, leaving an indelible mark on the rugby community in Fiji. The Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament is set to kick off next Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with live coverage available on FBC Sports, allowing fans to witness the celebration of rugby and the dedication of its referees.
