Police are currently awaiting the transfer of a legal file regarding a pastor sentenced for sexually assaulting 12 boys, pending from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew confirmed that the execution of a committal warrant against the 43-year-old man has not yet occurred.

The pastor, originally released on bail, failed to appear at his sentencing on December 4 of the previous year before Suva Magistrate Seini Puamau. He was subsequently sentenced in absentia to serve seven years of a nine-year and six-month prison term, before being eligible for parole.

Charged with an extensive list of offenses—including four counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault, and multiple charges related to attempting rape—the pastor misused his position of authority within the community, targeting young boys. In her ruling, Ms. Puamau emphasized the gravity of his actions, highlighting the need for justice for the victims and broader protection for society against similar predators.

Mr. Fong Chew noted that the trial proceedings were conducted in absentia and reiterated the ongoing need to secure the file from the ODPP for further legal action.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance within communities and reinforces the necessity for accountability for those in positions of trust. Protecting the dignity and safety of children remains a paramount concern, and justice for the victims serves as a critical reminder to society.

In summary, a pastor convicted of sexually assaulting multiple boys remains at large as authorities await his sentencing file. The legal proceedings highlight significant societal issues regarding authority abuse and child protection that need continuous attention and action.
