As families across the nation step into the new year armed with fresh resolutions, a church leader has emphasized the importance of fostering care for the elderly and strengthening familial ties. Reverend Ronald Ram of the Grace Samaritan Church articulated that the beginning of a new year should not only be a time for setting personal goals but also a moment for families to reflect on their responsibilities towards each other.
“Many elderly people, widows, and vulnerable individuals often find themselves neglected, even with families and communities around them,” Reverend Ram noted. He stressed that the new year should commence at home, focusing on fortifying the relationships between parents, children, and grandparents.
He advocates that prioritizing the wellbeing of elders contributes to building resilient families, which in turn fosters safer and more united communities. “Faith, family, and compassion should steer our New Year resolutions. Families should reconnect, spend quality time together, and ensure that no one feels neglected or left behind,” he urged.
Having actively served the Korociriciri settlement for 12 years, the church has grown from a humble congregation of just 10 members to over 100, primarily through outreach programs targeting those facing social and personal challenges. Looking forward to 2026, Reverend Ram shared plans for the church to extend its outreach beyond Korociriciri to five neighboring communities. This expansion aims to support widows, single mothers, individuals affected by drug abuse, and those experiencing isolation.
“Our goal is to assist at least 50 more vulnerable individuals while motivating families to take a more proactive role in caring for their own,” he explained. “Strong families create strong communities, and strong communities build a strong nation.”
With a vision for unity and compassion, the Reverend’s call to action encourages families to prioritize connection and care, embodying the spirit of the new year as a time for renewal and support.
