The Fiji Police Force has initiated preliminary investigations into the alleged unauthorized issuance of passports to children linked to members of the Grace Road group. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew stated that further steps will be guided by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka after additional consultations.

This development comes after Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua announced his resignation from the ministerial position, allowing for a fair investigation into the situation. He disclosed that the passports were reportedly issued without his consent or the approval of senior officials in the Department of Immigration.

Commissioner Chew noted that the initial investigation will clarify whether the Fiji Police Force or the Fijian Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will oversee the inquiry moving forward.

This situation highlights the importance of accountability within governmental processes and ensures that thorough investigations are conducted to uphold integrity in public services. The outcome may foster a stronger framework for preventing such issues in the future, thereby enhancing trust in the immigration system.

In summary, the Fiji Police are exploring serious allegations regarding unauthorized passport issuance, with the oversight of the Prime Minister and an emphasis on ensuring an unbiased investigation. This approach reflects a commitment to transparency and reinvigoration of public trust.
