Pasifika Hero Recognized with NZDF Commendation

Brian Pulefolau, renowned for his selfless service to his community in south Auckland, has been honored for his contributions both as a volunteer and through his role with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). Recently, he received a Commendation for Exceptional Leadership from Brigadier Rob Krushka, who highlighted Pulefolau’s professionalism and dedication to duty.

Originating from Niuea, Pulefolau joined the NZDF in 2013 and has held various positions in Defence Security. He has been serving as the Supervisor of Security Guard Forces at Papakura Military Camp since 2018, overseeing the camp’s security operations, emergency procedures, and training for his team. Under his leadership, he has also implemented several healthy lifestyle initiatives, promoting financial wellness, physical exercise, and nutrition, which have positively impacted the well-being of his staff and their families.

Pulefolau has made it a point to give back to his community, including teaching life skills such as fishing, using repurposed fishing gear from departing soldiers. He is active in various community efforts, such as recycling clothing and building materials to aid Pacific nations affected by natural disasters. Alongside his wife, he co-founded the Pasifika Autism Assist Group to raise awareness about neurodiversity and support families with autistic members.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed; he received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Autism New Zealand in 2016. Mr. Pulefolau continues to serve as an inspiring figure in both the NZDF and the Pasifika community.
