The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party, Sila Balawa, has announced that the party is currently assessing the situation involving Lynda Tabuya, a party member and Member of Parliament, who was removed from her cabinet position last week after an explicit video of her surfaced online.

In response to this incident, the Party’s Executive Committee convened for a lengthy two-hour meeting to discuss the matter and outline the next steps. The disciplinary committee has been given the responsibility to conduct a comprehensive investigation, which is expected to be completed within 21 days. Tabuya will have the opportunity to present her defense before the committee, which is composed of six members. The committee is dedicated to carrying out this process independently, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of its proceedings.

This situation highlights the importance of accountability within political parties and the challenges they face when dealing with issues related to personal conduct. Regardless of the outcome, this investigation could serve as an opportunity for the party to reinforce its values and commitment to ethical standards. Additionally, it underscores the necessity of due process, allowing all parties involved to voice their perspectives.

In a broader sense, such transparency can ultimately strengthen public trust in political institutions. The coming weeks will be critical in determining Tabuya’s future within the party and may lead to constructive discussions about privacy and conduct in the digital age.
