Parliament’s Presidential Nominations Delayed Amid Water Works

The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has announced that the nominations for the appointment of the President of Fiji and the acknowledgment of the President’s appointment will not be addressed in today’s session. These items are scheduled as the fourth and fifth entries on the day’s Order Paper.

During the parliamentary session, Ratu Naiqama indicated that these matters will be discussed at a future sitting. This decision follows communication received by the Office of the Speaker regarding maintenance work being conducted by the Water Authority of Fiji starting at midnight tonight.

Ratu Naiqama noted that the only urgent item on tomorrow’s Order Paper is a Bill proposed by the Prime Minister, which they plan to address today. He also stated that the Parliament intends to suspend tomorrow’s session due to scheduled water cuts affecting residents in the Suva – Nausori corridor. Both the Government and the Opposition agreed to this motion to suspend the sitting. Ratu Naiqama indicated that he would seek further advice on the situation.
