Parliamentary Tempers Flare: Ministers Apologize for Unruly Behavior

The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, issued an apology to the House for his inappropriate conduct and the use of unparliamentary language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday, as outlined under Standing Orders 80. In his remarks, Singh stated, “I would like to apologise to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used in this House that may have offended any individual Member.”

Additionally, Opposition MP Praveen Bala also apologized under the same standing order, expressing regret if his words had caused any offense.

The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, responded by urging all members to maintain decorum within the House. He remarked, “I would like to implore you, honorable Members of this august House, let us keep the decorum always.” He noted that members seemed to escalate quickly from calmness to heated exchanges and emphasized the importance of considering the public and children watching the proceedings, either on television or from the gallery.
