The Committee’s members were greeted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sakiasi Ditoka, along with Permanent Secretary Dr. Raijeli Taga and other senior officials from the Ministry. The visit followed a presentation made to Parliament regarding the Ministry’s Annual Reports for the years 2019 to 2020 and 2020 to 2021.
During the engagement, members of the Committee received detailed briefings about the Ministry’s efforts to promote Fiji’s national interests through bilateral, regional, and international engagements. Key discussion points included Fiji’s diplomatic relations, regional cooperation, participation in international organizations, trade and economic diplomacy, and the consular services offered to Fijians living abroad.
The Committee was also updated on the Ministry’s performance in recent financial years, particularly highlighting its response during the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing efforts to fortify regional partnerships that align with Fiji’s development goals. This visit provided the Committee members with a firsthand look at the Ministry’s daily operations and allowed for meaningful interactions with diplomats, enhancing their understanding of the management of foreign relations and the implementation of commitments detailed in the Ministry’s Annual Reports.
This engagement underscores Fiji’s commitment to active participation in global affairs while addressing its domestic and international priorities.
