Parliamentary Apologies: A Call for Decorum Amidst Turbulence

The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, issued an apology to the House for his inappropriate behavior and use of unparliamentary language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday, as per Standing Order 80. Singh expressed regret, stating, “I would like to apologise to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used which may have offended any individual Member of this House.”

Opposition MP Praveen Bala also took the opportunity to apologize under the same standing order for any offense caused by his use of inappropriate language.

In response, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu urged all members to maintain decorum in the House. He emphasized, “I would like to implore you honourable Members of this august House, to keep the decorum always.” Ratu Naiqama noted the need for members to remain composed, suggesting that high emotions often lead to hasty remarks. He reminded the Members to be mindful of the public and children watching the sessions in person or on television.
