Parliamentary Apologies: A Call for Decorum

The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, formally apologized to the House under Standing Orders 80 for his inappropriate conduct and use of unparliamentary language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday. Singh expressed regret, stating, “I would like to apologize to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used that may have offended any individual Member of this House.”

In a similar vein, Opposition MP Praveen Bala also issued an apology for any hurt caused by his own use of unparliamentary words.

The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, encouraged all members to maintain decorum within the House. He remarked, “I would like to implore you honourable Members of this august House, let us keep the decorum always.” He further highlighted the importance of their behavior, mentioning the public and children watching the proceedings, whether on television or from the gallery.
