Parliament is set to be prorogued from Monday, December 16, 2024, until the next State Opening on Monday, February 24, 2025. This prorogation marks the official conclusion of the current Parliamentary session, adhering to the customary practices observed within the four-year Parliamentary Term.

The Honourable Speaker has notified His Excellency the President regarding this prorogation and the upcoming State Opening. During this period, all Parliamentary activities, including sittings and Standing Committee proceedings related to Bills, Motions, and reports, will be temporarily suspended. However, urgent matters may still be addressed at the discretion of the Speaker.

The State Opening of the third session will be conducted by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu, at 10:00 a.m. on February 24, 2025, following a ceremonial military Guard-of-Honour by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The event will also be graced by the Acting Honourable Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, along with Justices of Appeal and other judges.

On March 3, 2025, Parliament will reconvene for a two-week session. Throughout the prorogation period, parliamentary operations will proceed as usual, unless stated otherwise.

With this prorogation, there is an opportunity to reflect on past legislative accomplishments and prepare for future endeavors. It allows parliamentarians to strategize and engage with their constituents, ensuring a productive and responsive continuation of governance upon resuming sessions.
