Parliament Postpones Presidential Nominations Amid Water Crisis

The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has announced that Parliament will postpone the nominations for the appointment of the President of Fiji as well as the acknowledgment of the President’s appointment, which were listed as items four and five on today’s agenda.

During the session, Ratu Naiqama stated that these matters will be discussed at a later date. This decision follows a notification received by the Office of the Speaker regarding maintenance work scheduled by the Water Authority of Fiji, set to begin at midnight tonight.

He noted that the only urgent item on tomorrow’s agenda will be a Bill from the Prime Minister, which is intended to be introduced today. Additionally, Ratu Naiqama confirmed plans to suspend tomorrow’s Parliament Sitting due to the anticipated water cuts affecting residents in the Suva – Nausori corridor.

Both Government and Opposition members supported the motion to suspend the sitting for tomorrow. Ratu Naiqama mentioned that he would seek further advice regarding the matter.
