Parliament Changes Salary Law: What It Means for MPs

The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has stated that based on legal advice, Section 11 of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 2014 indicates that the new determination made by Parliament in May has replaced the 2020 Determination.

During a parliamentary session, Ratu Naiqama explained that this means the 2020 Determination has been effectively revoked, and the new 2024 Determination establishes that current salaries will be at 100 percent, effective from August 2024. He confirmed that Members of Parliament are now receiving their salaries at the full 100 percent rate.
