Parliament Bids Farewell to a Key Leader Ahead of Historic Transition

Members of Parliament and the Parliament Secretariat gathered to bid farewell to Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the outgoing Speaker and incoming President of Fiji, during a formal event in Parliament yesterday. This gathering served as a moment to acknowledge Ratu Naiqama’s significant contributions and leadership over the past two years as he prepares to transition to his new role as the Head of State.

During his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the theme of continuity in public service, stating, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work.” His remarks highlighted his commitment to maintaining the momentum of progress for the nation.

On behalf of all Members and staff, Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto conveyed gratitude towards Ratu Naiqama, applauding his leadership and dedication during his time as Speaker. He expressed heartfelt thanks in Fijian, saying, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”

Ratu Naiqama is set to take the Oath of Office for the presidency on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 AM at the State House.

This transition marks not only a change in leadership but also the ongoing commitment to serving the public and ensuring a steady course for the future of Fiji. The event was a poignant reminder of the importance of leadership and the legacy one leaves behind while also looking forward to new beginnings with optimism.
