Parents were encouraged to take an active role in supporting their children’s education during the Holy Trinity Kindergarten Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week celebrations held in Suva. Parent Sereima Tagicakirewa emphasized that involvement in early education is crucial for academic success, particularly in the formative kindergarten years. “I just want to encourage the parents, they should support their kids, especially in the kindergarten,” Tagicakirewa stated, recognizing that early support lays the groundwork for future learning.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “Connecting with communities, partnership for early childhood success,” highlighting the importance of collaboration among parents, educators, and the community in fostering a nurturing educational environment. Litia Komaiwai, the teacher in charge, resonated with this by thanking parents for their strong participation and reiterating that early childhood education is foundational for children’s development. She described children as “pearls” that must be treasured and nurtured, as they will be the leaders of tomorrow.

This call for parental involvement aligns with broader messages from educational leaders in Fiji, including Education Minister Aseri Radrodro and opposition leaders, who have similarly stressed the need for parents to engage actively in their children’s educational journeys. Their messages highlight the significance of a supportive home environment, effective study habits, and taking part in school activities to boost student performance.

The celebrations at Holy Trinity Kindergarten, which concluded recently, served as a reminder of the collective effort required to enhance the educational framework in Fiji. With increasing recognition of the vital role families and communities play in education, there is hope that such initiatives will lead to improved outcomes for children as they transition to primary school and beyond.
