Siromi Turaga, the Minister for Justice, has urged parents to ensure their children are registered with the Births, Deaths, and Marriages (BDM) Registry before the upcoming school year begins. During his recent visit to Bua, where he launched BDM services at various Post Fiji Shops, he emphasized the importance of registration for every child, highlighting that it is a family responsibility.

Turaga pointed out that the ministry’s shift towards decentralizing services aims to make the registration process more accessible. Previously, some children were not registered due to various factors, including parental oversight, lack of awareness, or financial hardships.

He further explained that accurate registration of children is crucial for effective policy-making, as it helps the government understand the demographic landscape, including the number of children and their ages. This knowledge is vital for better planning and resource allocation. With BDM services now being offered locally in Bua, residents no longer need to travel to Savusavu or Labasa for registration.

In summary, Minister Turaga is advocating for parental responsibility in registering children, which not only serves individual families but also supports broader governmental planning efforts. The decentralized approach reflects a commitment to removing barriers and promoting accessibility for all families.

This initiative showcases the government’s proactive stance in ensuring that every child is accounted for, which could lead to improved social programs and resources in the future.
