Parents Urged to Monitor Kids Amid Holiday Risks

Police are advising parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities this weekend. Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa noted that incidents of missing teenagers often rise during school holidays and the Hibiscus festival, typically due to insufficient communication at home.

Waqa emphasized that “strict supervision will safeguard children from following the wrong crowd and becoming involved in situations that could affect their lives and future.” He stressed the importance of parental awareness regarding their children’s activities and whom they associate with during the two-week break.

He reiterated the ongoing necessity for vigilant monitoring of children to prevent unforeseen issues from arising. Concerns regarding children being exploited to sell drugs should not be dismissed, as dealers often target locations popular with young people.

Waqa remarked that those engaged in drug distribution are willing to take significant risks for profit and will not hesitate to involve innocent children. He encouraged parents to be open about discussing topics that are often regarded as taboo.
