Police are urging parents to educate their children about the legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles, an act that has raised significant concerns among motorists since the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu has highlighted a recent incident involving a bus driver, who was captured in a video circulating on social media, as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with this pastime.

ACPO Driu emphasized that such reckless behavior can lead to serious accidents, resulting in injuries or even fatalities. He encouraged responsible celebration practices and warned against this dangerous activity, stating, “Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles.”

Under the law, individuals engaging in this behavior may be subject to investigation according to Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or the Negligent Acts Causing Harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. The severity of the offense can escalate to charges of murder, depending on the extent of injuries sustained by victims.

Driu noted that children often do not fully grasp the serious repercussions of their actions. Therefore, it is imperative for parents to communicate these risks to their children, while also encouraging community members to speak to young people about the importance of safety. The police presence will be heightened to monitor and address these unsettling incidents.

In fostering a safer environment, the police further called on everyone to look out for one another and contribute to community safety. This proactive approach aims to prevent accidents and ensure that celebrations can occur without endangering lives.

This article highlights the importance of community awareness and parental guidance in fostering safer habits among children, reinforcing the idea that collective responsibility is key to maintaining public safety.
