Parents Urged: Keep Close Watch on Children This Holiday!

Police are advising parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children’s whereabouts this weekend. Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa highlighted that reports of missing teenagers typically increase during school holidays and the Hibiscus Festival, often due to poor communication between parents and children.

“Strict supervision can protect children from falling in with the wrong crowd and getting involved in situations that could adversely affect their lives and futures,” Mr. Waqa stated. He emphasized that parents should be attuned to their children’s activities and companions during the two-week break.

The police reiterated the importance of monitoring children’s activities to prevent unforeseen incidents. Mr. Waqa raised concerns about children potentially being exploited by drug dealers, who tend to target popular locations frequented by young people.

He urged parents to engage in open conversations about challenging topics that might be considered taboo.
