Police are urging parents to educate their children on the dangers and legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles, a behavior that has raised concerns among motorists since the beginning of the year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, pointed out that a recent video circulating on social media shows a bus driver falling victim to this reckless act.

Driu emphasized the serious risks involved, noting, “Such actions can cause accidents which can lead to injuries or death. Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles.” He explained that those who engage in this behavior could face legal repercussions under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or the Negligent Acts Causing Harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. Depending on the severity of any resulting injuries, the offense could potentially be escalated to a murder charge.

Highlighting the responsibility of parents, Driu remarked that children often do not understand the serious consequences of their actions, and it is crucial for parents to inform them appropriately. He also encouraged community members to speak to children about the dangers of such activities. “Police officers are around and will continue to monitor such incidents,” Driu added, urging everyone to look out for one another to ensure community safety.

This call to action not only promotes responsibility among parents and guardians but also fosters a sense of community vigilance. Together, we can work towards creating safer environments for everyone, particularly as society seeks to celebrate occasions while remaining mindful of safety regulations.
