Weightlifting Fiji is gearing up for the 2026 season, and head coach Henry Elder has emphasized the vital role that parental support has played in the team’s international success. Elder highlighted how parents have significantly contributed, not just financially, but also by providing essential items such as fruits, water, and training materials during practice sessions.
The emotional backing from parents, according to Elder, is instrumental in motivating the athletes, both in training and during international competitions. He expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from families throughout the year, noting their continuous presence at training sessions, which fosters a stronger commitment among the athletes.
“It’s always special for the athletes when their parents show up to training,” Elder remarked. “You can really see how they step up their effort and achieve better results.”
In addition to parental involvement, Elder acknowledged the support of the Fiji National Sports Commission for granting the team access to their facilities for training, which further enhances their preparation for the upcoming season.
