The Dee Cees Nadera Panthers are focused on developing their players to help them secure contracts with rugby league clubs abroad. This was emphasized by the team’s manager, Rodney Nair, during an interview with SUNsports.
Nair stated, “We don’t hold on to our players once they find opportunities to play overseas.” He noted that this season features a completely new team.
Nair explained that they have restructured their strategy this season, as many of their players primarily came from a rugby union background, which presented certain challenges. “It has been quite challenging for our coach, Vula Dakuitoga, to gather the players and work with them to reach this point. Dakuitoga is considered one of the most successful rugby league coaches in Fiji.”
Despite the challenges, the Panthers have made it to the Vodafone Cup national quarterfinals, where they will compete against the new team, Waitaci Titans. “Our goal is to perform to the best of our abilities and attempt to reclaim our lost title. We believe in ourselves and are aware of the intensity of the situation,” Nair added.
He expressed confidence that the players will secure a victory against the Titans at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. “The coach has faith in the players, as their commitment to diet and training has been commendable. We are encouraging Nadera rugby league fans to come out and support the Panthers as they aim to make history in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup.”
Nair also mentioned that four of their players have left the club to join the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Navy.
