The Dee Cees Nadera Panthers are focused on developing their players to help them secure contracts with overseas rugby league clubs. This was highlighted by Panthers manager Rodney Nair in an interview with SUNsports.
Nair stated, “We don’t hold on to our players as soon as they find employment or play for a rugby league club overseas.” He mentioned that the current season features a new team lineup.
The team has had to re-strategize this season, as many players typically come from rugby union, presenting some challenges. Coach Vula Dakuitoga has faced difficulties in bringing the players together and preparing them for competition. Nair noted that Dakuitoga is recognized as one of the most successful rugby league coaches in Fiji.
Despite these challenges, the Panthers have advanced to the Vodafone Cup national quarterfinals, where they will compete against the newcomer Waitaci Titans. Nair expressed that their goal is to perform at their best and reclaim their lost title, emphasizing their belief in themselves despite the pressure of the situation.
According to Nair, the players are confident heading into the match at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park. He added that the coach has faith in the players due to their positive attitude towards training and diet.
Nair also encouraged Nadera rugby league fans to come out and support the Panthers as they aim to make history in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup. He mentioned that four players have departed the club to join the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Navy.
