Panthers’ Journey: Can They Reclaim Their Lost Glory?

The Dee Cees Nadera Panthers are focused on helping their players secure rugby league contracts with overseas teams. This was highlighted by the team’s manager, Rodney Nair, during an interview with SUNsports.

Nair emphasized that the Panthers do not retain players who find opportunities abroad. “This season consists of a new set of team,” he remarked. He mentioned that the team had to re-strategize this season since many of their players usually come from a rugby union background, presenting certain challenges.

“It was quite difficult for our coach, Vula Dakuitoga, to assemble the players and reach this level,” Nair said. He praised Dakuitoga, calling him one of the most successful rugby league coaches in Fiji.

Despite the hurdles faced, the Panthers have advanced to the Vodafone Cup national quarterfinals, where they will compete against newcomers, the Waitaci Titans. Nair expressed their goal to perform at their best and reclaim their lost title, acknowledging the intensity of the competition.

The players are confident about their match against the Titans at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park. “The coach has faith in the players because their dedication to training and diet has been commendable,” Nair noted. He encouraged Nadera rugby fans to support the Panthers as they aim to make history in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup.

Nair also mentioned that four players have left the club to join the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Navy.
