The Dee Cees Nadera Panthers are focusing on player development to help them secure rugby league contracts with international clubs. This was highlighted by Panthers manager Rodney Nair in an interview with SUNsports.
Nair emphasized that the organization does not retain players who receive offers from overseas rugby league teams. He mentioned that this season features a newly assembled team.
He acknowledged that they had to adapt their strategy this season, as most of their players have a background in rugby union, which has posed certain challenges. Nair noted the difficulty for coach Vula Dakuitoga in bringing the players together and preparing them effectively.
Dakuitoga is recognized as one of Fiji’s most successful rugby league coaches. Despite the hurdles, the Panthers have earned a place in the Vodafone Cup national quarterfinals, where they will compete against the Waitaci Titans.
“Our goal is to perform at our best and reclaim our lost title. We believe in ourselves and understand the intensity of the situation,” said Nair, expressing the team’s confidence ahead of the match at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park.
He praised the players for their positive attitude towards diet and training, which has strengthened the coach’s confidence in them. Nair called on Nadera rugby league fans to support the Panthers as they aim to make history in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup.
He also mentioned that four players from the team have left to join the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Navy.
