Pacific Ties: Fiji’s PM Set for Groundbreaking China Visit

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is scheduled to begin a 10-day official visit to China starting Monday. This marks his first trip to China since he assumed office in December 2022.

According to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, the visit will involve extensive discussions between the leaders of both nations on significant issues of mutual interest. This year, China has welcomed numerous leaders from Pacific Island nations, and Rabuka’s visit underscores the strong ties China has with the South Pacific region.

Mao expressed China’s intention to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and collaborate with Fiji in fostering a closer community for a shared future between China and Pacific Island nations. Notably, Fiji was the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with China.
