Since October 16, 2023, more than 2,000 students have celebrated their graduation from Pacific Polytech, where they obtained national and micro qualifications through various campuses in Fiji. During a ceremony on Wednesday at Kshatriya Hall in Labasa, the founding director of Pacific Polytech, Perri Taoi, revealed these remarkable achievements.
Out of the graduates, 1,574 earned micro qualifications, and 878 received national qualifications. Taoi also announced that an additional cohort of approximately 700 students is scheduled to graduate early next year. He stressed the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality, competency-based training designed to equip graduates with the necessary skills to be job-ready and adaptable for future challenges.
Moreover, Mr. Taoi pointed out ongoing efforts to develop new programs in key sectors, including business, agriculture, ICT, hospitality, life skills, healthcare, and engineering. This proactive approach aims to enhance educational offerings in response to industry needs.
The director further emphasized Pacific Polytech’s mission to guide youth away from societal issues like drug abuse by equipping them with practical skills and viable career paths. “Our goal is to serve as a beacon of hope, allowing young individuals to construct lives filled with dignity, purpose, and ambition,” he explained. He also noted, “When you provide someone with a skill, you not only grant them a job but a future.”
The chief guest at the event, Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, inspired the graduates with his words on perseverance and self-determination, stating that true excellence is achieved through hard work. He reminded the graduates that their success hinges not on circumstances but on how they respond to and make use of the opportunities and challenges they encounter.
He also took a moment to commend the leadership, faculty, and staff of Pacific Polytech, as well as the visionaries who established the institution in 2021.
This celebration of educational achievements not only highlights the importance of skill development among the youth but reflects a broader commitment by educational institutions to foster resilience and adaptability in an ever-changing world. It is a hopeful reminder that with the right training and motivation, the future can be bright for the graduates and their communities.
