The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has successfully concluded its involvement in Operation Kuru Kuru, a significant initiative aimed at combating illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing activities in the Pacific region. This operation is part of a broader effort to enhance maritime surveillance in collaboration with Pacific Island nations.

Operation Kuru Kuru facilitates cooperation among countries to oversee and safeguard the exclusive economic zones of Pacific Island countries. The ADF supported this operation by deploying a C-27J Spartan and a KA350 King Air aircraft, operating from various locations, including Vanuatu, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and, most recently, Fiji.

Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Commander Joint Operations, emphasized the importance of collective efforts, noting, “We are at our best when we work together as a Pacific family, to face joint challenges together.” This collaboration reinforces the commitment to securing maritime resources for the benefit of the regional community.

The ADF’s involvement in Operation Kuru Kuru aligns with its ongoing contributions to maritime vigilance through Operation Solania, which serves to uphold security across the Pacific.

This partnership highlights the vital role of international cooperation in addressing pressing challenges like illegal fishing, ensuring the sustainability of marine resources, and fostering regional solidarity.

Summary: The ADF has wrapped up its support for Operation Kuru Kuru in Fiji, a collaborative mission to combat illegal fishing in the Pacific. The operation saw the deployment of aircraft to enhance maritime surveillance, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing shared challenges.
