The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has taken an important step towards enhancing regional maritime safety by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Solomon Islands Maritime Authority (SIMA). The agreement, which was formalized yesterday, aims to bolster technical cooperation and improve safety standards across the Pacific region.

The MOU was signed by CMDR Joweli Cawaki, CEO of MSAF, and Thierry Nervale, Director of SIMA. It lays the groundwork for capacity-building initiatives, facilitates the sharing of expertise, and ensures effective coordination in addressing maritime obligations. This collaboration will include joint training efforts, regulatory compliance initiatives, and the promotion of best practices, all aimed at creating a more resilient maritime sector.

Representatives from the Papua New Guinea National Maritime Safety Authority participated in the signing ceremony virtually, highlighting a regional commitment to improving maritime safety standards.

This partnership is an encouraging sign of cooperation among Pacific nations in the face of increased maritime challenges. By working together, these authorities are demonstrating a proactive approach to enhancing safety and maritime governance, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient maritime operations in the region.
