Leaders from various governments, including Foreign Ministers and representatives from Pacific Police Forces, convened in Sagafili Village, Apia, Samoa, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) focused on Pacific Policing.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji, Samoa’s Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Tonga’s Prime Minister Siaosi Ofa ki Vahafolau Sovaleni, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the significance of shared values and collaborative efforts in enhancing regional security, as well as addressing the effects of climate change on policing initiatives in the Pacific.

The Pacific Policing Initiative is designed to bolster regional law enforcement capabilities and combat transnational crimes, including drug trafficking and cybercrime. A notable aspect of the initiative is the deployment of the first-ever Pacific police support group, representing the strengths of regional partnerships.

Additionally, the initiative emphasizes the necessity of cultural sensitivity and transparency in policing strategies, prioritizing community involvement and professional development.
