Fiji’s Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, is actively participating in discussions on early childhood development (ECD) at the ongoing 2025 Pacific ECD Forum in Apia, Samoa. The event, which kicked off under the theme “Children, Our Heritage: Blue Pacific Resilience Through ECD,” has gathered leaders from 15 Pacific nations, including Fiji, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach towards nurturing young children.

Opened by Samoa’s Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa, this three-day forum is jointly organized by the Government of Samoa and UNICEF Pacific. A significant moment during the forum was the co-launching of the Pacific Regional Review of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Curricula, conducted by Minister Radrodro alongside Tuvalu’s Minister for Education, Youth and Sports, Timi Melei, and the Secretary for Education of the Federated States of Micronesia, Ms. Gardenia Aisek.

Fiji’s delegation boasts a cross-sectoral team that includes Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, and Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran. This not only underscores Fiji’s commitment to a comprehensive and united stance on early childhood development but also reflects the government’s recognition of the critical role various sectors play in fostering a supportive environment for child development.

The second day of the forum is focused on enhancing support for parents and caregivers across the Pacific. Discussions emphasize the necessity of nurturing environments in which young children can thrive, aligning with Fiji’s broader efforts detailed in its National Early Childhood Development (ECD) Policy for 2024-2028. This policy aims to improve healthcare, nutrition, and educational opportunities for children, showcasing Fiji’s dedication to elevating the welfare of its youngest citizens while promoting collaborative actions.

The forum signifies a hopeful step forward for fostering a resilient future across the Pacific, aiming to enhance children’s growth and development amid challenges. The collective actions being discussed and initiated reflect a shared commitment to creating a nurturing environment where every child can flourish, thereby building a foundation for the future leaders of the Pacific region.
