Public Service Commission Chairman Luke Rokovada and Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Parmesh Chand are currently in Samoa to engage in meaningful discussions aimed at enhancing public service across the Pacific region. Their visit focuses on collaboration addressing regional challenges and sharing insights to develop cooperative solutions grounded in Pacific expertise.
During the next four days, Rokovada will have the opportunity to connect with over 80 fellow Public Service Commission leaders and senior government officials from 16 Pacific Island countries. In his remarks for the conference’s launch, he emphasized the significance of this gathering for fostering collaboration, strengthening relationships, and tackling common opportunities and challenges faced by member nations.
Rokovada highlighted that as part of the Large Ocean Island States within the Blue Pacific Continent, it is essential to cultivate resilient public service systems to navigate future challenges and harness opportunities for their communities.
The Commissioners Fono serves as a valuable platform for sharing successful Pacific-driven initiatives. He noted that the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific articulates a vision for a resilient and inclusive region, underscoring the necessity of trusted and adaptable public services that are focused on results, gender inclusivity, and the well-being of citizens.
Throughout the week, participants can look forward to diverse panel discussions on pertinent topics such as workforce sustainability, ethical practices, public service reforms, and enhancing resilience through effective remuneration and rewards.
This initiative reflects a collective commitment to improving public service delivery across the Pacific, emphasizing hope and cooperation for a brighter future for all citizens in the region. Enhancing these services will not only address the immediate needs of the communities but also pave the way for sustainable development and prosperity.
