Impacts of climate change affecting Fiji and other Pacific Island nations will be discussed at this week’s PALM 10 meeting in Tokyo, Japan.
While the Japanese government has provided various forms of aid to help mitigate these impacts, officials informed the Pacific media this morning that 14 leaders are in Tokyo for the meeting, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka who will arrive this evening.
The Senior Deputy Director for Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iwasaki Ryuji, noted that the last meeting was held in 2018, and strengthening ties with Fiji and the Pacific remains a priority.
“PALM meetings began in 1997, and due to our long-standing relationship, the Japanese government wants to promote this. We ask that the media help the people in the Pacific understand this.”
