Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, attended the Pacific Island High-Level Roundtable today, which was led by International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Bo Li, the Deputy Managing Director responsible for the Asia Pacific region, was also present at the meeting. During the roundtable, Pacific Ministers discussed their experiences in implementing reforms and securing financing from the IMF, while also addressing significant challenges resulting from increasing natural disasters, economic disruptions, and limited access to climate financing. In his remarks, Professor Prasad highlighted the vital role of the IMF in promoting enhanced climate financing and pointed out that the financial resources currently available to the Pacific are only a small portion of the significant needs they face.
