The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat has announced a new engagement and advocacy plan aimed at enhancing collaboration with regional and international partners. Deputy Secretary General Esala Nayasi emphasized that this initiative will provide a framework for engagement at all levels, strengthening efforts on critical issues such as climate change and regional security.

Nayasi highlighted that the plan includes a messaging guide designed to tailor communications to different partners based on specific issues and types of engagement. This approach is intended to ensure effective advocacy and development assistance that aligns with the priorities of the Pacific region.

“Those that we need to engage with in terms of development assistance to the region, and those that we also need for advocacy efforts globally, climate change clearly is an example that we can use,” Nayasi explained.

The Forum is dedicated to complementing the endeavors of member countries rather than duplicating efforts, responding to the unique needs and expectations of its members. Secretary General Baron Waqa reiterated the commitment to ongoing engagement with leaders as the Forum aims to solidify its strategic direction toward the 2025 Strategy. He emphasized that aligning regional initiatives and fostering open dialogue among leaders will help to advance Pacific priorities in a cohesive and inclusive manner.

This new plan reflects the Pacific Islands Forum’s proactive stance in addressing regional challenges and maximizing the impact of its partnerships on global issues, particularly in the face of climate change. The commitment to collaboration paves the way for more substantial advocacy efforts that can lead to meaningful advancements for the region.
