“Pacific Islands Forum Mission to New Caledonia Set for October”

The Pacific Islands Forum Troika-led mission to New Caledonia is set to take place in early October, as confirmed by Secretary General Baron Waqa during a press conference today. He noted that foreign leaders have reiterated their support for the TROIKA mission, and ongoing discussions are being held with the governments of New Caledonia and France regarding the potential deployment this month.

The Forum has been collaborating with the French government and New Caledonian authorities to ensure that the mission’s objectives and arrangements are aligned with the expectations of all relevant stakeholders. Last month, the mission was postponed due to concerns raised by the New Caledonia Government regarding due process and protocol.

Waqa also confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be part of the delegation. The Forum Troika serves as a crucial regional political consultative mechanism, involving Forum Leaders who are essential for promoting regional initiatives.
