Baron Waqa, the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, has strongly condemned the tragic attack that occurred at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, labeling it an act of terrorism. In a heartfelt statement, Waqa expressed solidarity with Australia, emphasizing that the Pacific Islands Forum stands united with the Australian people and government during this moment of profound grief.

“The Pacific Islands Forum condemns the act of terrorism that unfolded on Sunday, December 14, at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia,” Waqa stated. He reiterated that the values shared among the member nations bind the region together, particularly in times of crisis, highlighting the importance of respect and tolerance, which are pillars of Pacific societies.

“Respect for all religions and beliefs is central to our Pacific identity and underpins unity and harmony across our richly diverse societies,” he said. Waqa underscored that the repercussions of such violent acts resonate throughout the region, indicating that challenges faced by one nation impact all.

Reaffirming the Forum Secretariat’s dedication to peace and unity, he insisted on the commitment to foster peace, tolerance, and respect for diversity across the Blue Pacific Continent.
