Pacific Energy has made a substantial contribution to the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament, donating a grand total of $20,000, which includes $15,000 in cash and $5,000 worth of fuel. Chief Marketing Officer Amit Maharaj shared this announcement, underscoring the company’s long-standing commitment to fostering grassroots rugby development in Fiji. This sponsorship marks the second consecutive year that Pacific Energy has supported the Under-18 Future Superstars Division.
Maharaj highlighted the significance of the tournament for the company, stating, “This year is our 15th anniversary and 13 years as a partner of this tournament. We are deeply dedicated to promoting grassroots growth and the development of emerging talents in Fiji, as we recognize the importance of creating opportunities.” He noted that the Marist Sevens serves as an ideal platform for Pacific Energy to demonstrate its commitment to local communities.
In terms of tournament details, this year’s event will feature a new format, accommodating 52 men’s teams, an increase of four from the previous year. Organizers have also implemented a new rule ensuring that each match concludes with a winner, potentially including a golden point scenario for determining the outcome, adding to the competition’s intensity.
Ticket prices for the event have been revealed, with a special three-day package available for just $22 if purchased online, marking a first for the tournament. Tickets at the venue will range from $10 to $25, depending on the day.
Lawrence Tikaram, president of the Marist Rugby Club, expressed gratitude for the crucial support from Pacific Energy, noting that all divisions are now sold out, with only two slots remaining in the U18 girls category.
The Marist Sevens tournament is not merely a sports event; it embodies a commitment to community engagement and grassroots development. Scheduled to take place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva from March 27 to 29, the event promises to deliver an exhilarating showcase of talent and community spirit in action.
Overall, the Marist Sevens continues to serve as a vital platform for competition, while also nurturing the next generation of rugby stars, promoting inclusivity, and strengthening community ties across Fiji. This initiative represents a hopeful outlook for the future of rugby in the region.
