Leaders from across the Pacific region will convene at the Pacific Regional Dialogue to discuss how cooperatives can effectively tackle pressing issues such as climate change, food insecurity, and economic vulnerabilities. The event is set to take place in Nadi from tomorrow through January 30, bringing together senior government officials, cooperative leaders, and development partners for a three-day conference.

This gathering is jointly organized by the International Cooperative Alliance Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP) and Fiji’s Department of Cooperative Business, with backing from the ICA–EU Financial Framework Partnership Agreement. The event will be hosted at Tokatoka Resort, featuring a series of significant discussions and presentations.

The opening day will showcase keynote addresses and a regional panel dedicated to examining the contributions of cooperatives toward enhancing the Pacific’s blue-green economy. Participants will engage in key sessions that will cover essential topics such as policy and legal frameworks, innovations and financing strategies, as well as the application of technology to fortify cooperative ecosystems.

Particular emphasis will be placed on empowering women, youth, and indigenous communities within the cooperative movement, ensuring their active participation and leadership. An important outcome anticipated from this dialogue is the establishment of a Pacific Island Cooperative Action Agenda, aligning regional objectives with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This agenda will bolster the Pacific Island Cooperative Network as a vital platform for continued collaboration.

The program is set to conclude with visits to local cooperatives in Fiji, allowing participants to gain firsthand insights into sustainable livelihoods and the resilience of local communities. This initiative not only highlights the critical role cooperatives play in fostering sustainable development but also reinforces a commitment to community engagement and empowerment across the region.
