The Pacific Community (SPC) has officially welcomed Dr. Paula Vivili as its 23rd Director-General at a ceremonial event in Noumea, New Caledonia, which serves as the organization’s headquarters. The welcoming ceremony saw the participation of SPC staff, representatives from the host government, and various officials from France and New Caledonia, alongside customary authorities who conducted a Kanak ceremony to honor Dr. Vivili. This gesture emphasized the significance of culture and partnership in the SPC’s mission throughout the Pacific.

Dr. Vivili’s arrival was marked by formal courtesy visits with notable figures such as Véronique Roger-Lacan, the French Ambassador to the Pacific, and Jacques-Marie Billant, signaling the enduring collaboration between the SPC and France, a crucial member state. As a native Pacific Islander, Dr. Vivili takes on the leadership role following the legacies of previous Directors-General, with a firm commitment to advance the organization’s core values of generosity, stewardship, unity, and care.

The SPC team has expressed their unwavering support for Dr. Vivili as he leads the organization in its mission to serve its members and strengthen communities across the Blue Pacific. This transition represents a hopeful new chapter for the organization, poised to make significant contributions to regional development and cooperation.
