The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has recently concluded its support for Operation Kuru Kuru, a crucial initiative aimed at combating illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing activities in the Pacific region, particularly assisting Fiji. This operation fosters collaboration among Pacific Island countries to safeguard their exclusive economic zones.
As part of this effort, the ADF utilized aircraft such as the C-27J Spartan and KA350 King Air, which operated from various locations including Vanuatu, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji itself. Commander Joint Operations, Vice Admiral Justin Jones, emphasized the importance of collective action: “We are at our best when we work together as a Pacific family, to face joint challenges together.”
The ADF’s actions were part of a broader initiative called Operation Solania, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing maritime surveillance capabilities in the Pacific. This cooperation not only strengthens regional security but also reflects a united effort to ensure sustainable fisheries and protect marine resources for future generations.
The conclusion of Operation Kuru Kuru marks a positive step towards greater maritime security in the Pacific, reinforcing hopes for a more sustainable and cooperative approach to managing shared oceanic resources.
