The Ovalau Roses Netball team successfully defended their title at the Fiji Bitter Yalovata Lomaiviti 7s tournament held at Nasau Park in Levuka over the weekend. The team emerged triumphant in the final, defeating the Salad Bowl Fire Birds with a score of 25-13.
Under the guidance of team manager Joshua Ligavai, the Roses showcased their prowess by winning all their pool matches leading up to the final. Ligavai attributed this success to the team’s solid preparation and collective determination, despite facing challenges such as inclement weather and the juggling of university studies with work commitments.
“Preparations for the competition were great, and by the time we arrived, we were fit and ready,” Ligavai remarked. He emphasized the importance of the team’s unity and focus, stating, “It has been a good competition so far; we won all our games, and as we approached the final day, we were ready for battle.”
The players hail from diverse regions including Kadavu, Vanua Levu, and Ovalau, which adds to the team’s dynamic and enhances their collaborative efforts on the court. This blend of talents has been pivotal to their success.
Ligavai also took the opportunity to express his gratitude towards the team’s sponsors, families, and supporters for their continuous encouragement throughout the tournament. He highlighted the players’ dedication and hard work as instrumental in their preparation for the competition.
The Ovalau Roses’ victory not only reaffirms their status as champions but also serves as an inspiring testament to teamwork, preparation, and resilience in the face of challenges.
