Outrage as School Kids Caught Smoking Marijuana at Athletics Meet

Four primary school students have been referred to the police after allegedly being caught smoking marijuana during an athletics meet in Suva yesterday.

Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu reported that the students were discovered with smoking devices in a restroom and were turned over to security officials at the event before law enforcement was contacted.

He mentioned that the parents of the students have been notified and advised on the seriousness of their children’s actions. ACP Driu encouraged parents and guardians to regularly discuss the harmful effects of illegal drugs with their children. He cautioned that without ongoing guidance, children might seek advice from untrustworthy sources, which could lead them astray.

In a separate incident, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit conducted a raid in a Lami settlement, resulting in the arrest of two men who were allegedly found in possession of nearly 100 branches of dried leaves that are believed to be marijuana. The suspects are currently in custody while the confiscated materials are being analyzed.

Police have also made multiple arrests of individuals allegedly caught with marijuana at various locations including Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, and the Labasa bus stand, as well as in Vunivau, Labasa. All confiscated substances are undergoing analysis.
