Fiji Airways has confirmed that Osea Kolinisau will remain as the head coach of the national men’s 7s team for an additional four years. The announcement was made by Fiji Rugby Union chair Peter Mazey during a media conference at Rugby House in Suva.

Mazey explained that a comprehensive review of the recent 7s tournaments was carried out, which included meetings with team captains, managers, and both coaches Kolinisau and Saiasi Fuli. After discussions and allowing Kolinisau time to consult with his family, the trustees decided to extend his coaching tenure.

“Osea’s impressive results over the past four months have shown his capability and vision for the future,” Mazey stated. He added that Kolinisau has significant plans for the team, which will be shared in due time.

The Fiji Rugby Union is optimistic about the potential of the men’s team under Kolinisau’s leadership, particularly as they aim for a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Regarding the women’s team, Mazey noted that Saiasi Fuli’s contract as head coach of the Fiji Airways Fijiana squad would end in December 2024. The decision was made to open the position to find the best candidate to lead the women’s team into the next phase.

The Fiji Rugby Union expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the Paris 2024 Rugby 7s competition, highlighting the dedication of the coach, players, and staff as key to the event’s achievement. Their focus now shifts towards the challenges ahead and the pursuit of excellence on the international stage.
