Osea Kolinisau: Balancing Family Life and Rugby Success

Spread the love

Osea Kolinisau, head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens team, is looking forward to balancing his professional responsibilities and personal life this year. At 39 years old and originally from Namuka-i-Lau, Kolinisau has spent significant time away from his family, who live in the U.S., since he took over the coaching role in March last year. His wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children make regular visits to Fiji, but this year, Kolinisau aims to prioritize family time even more.

“I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and strive to be a better person than I was last year,” Kolinisau reflected, underscoring the importance of personal growth alongside his coaching tasks. He recognizes areas of improvement not only for himself but also for his coaching methodologies.

Under his leadership, the national men’s team has achieved remarkable successes, including a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games just four months after he began his coaching journey. Recently, he led the team to their first Cup title in Dubai, ending a 25-tournament winless streak, showcasing his ability to revive and energize the squad.

Looking ahead, Kolinisau is committed to maintaining the momentum and consistency of the team’s performance. He plans to draw insights from fellow coaches to enhance his own coaching strategies. Next week, he will serve as an ambassador at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament in Sigatoka, where he will also announce the national team for the three-day event. Following this tournament, he will finalize the squad for the Perth 7s set for January 24-26. Presently, the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team leads the HSBC SVNS series with 36 points, four points ahead of their closest competitors, Spain.

Kolinisau’s journey highlights a commendable balance between family commitments and professional aspirations, inspiring many to appreciate the importance of both realms in achieving a fulfilling life. His dual focus on enhancing his role as a coach while cherishing family connections represents a positive outlook in the fast-paced world of sports, demonstrating that personal fulfillment can align with professional success.
