The Orca Swim Club from Suva had a successful performance at the Fiji Swimming Age Nationals competition held at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay. Despite only having ten participants, the club stood out among the 193 swimmers who competed in the two-day event with a total of 716 entries from seven different clubs.
Sereana Heritage, the assistant head coach for Orca, expressed her pride in the team’s accomplishments. The club sent eight girls and two boys to compete, with a particular highlight being the relay team in the 15-16 female category, which demonstrated exceptional talent and collaboration.
Throughout the competition, the Orca Swim Club garnered 14 gold medals and nine silver medals, showcasing their dedication and hard work. Heritage also pointed out three swimmers—Katelyn Smith, Keiko Smith, and Grace Khelan—who are preparing to represent Fiji in the Mini Games in Palau next year, with their coaches supporting their training for success.
Notably, the Orca Swim Club did not face any fines for swimming above the qualifying time, a rule that imposes a $30 fee for exceeding the limits. Heritage expressed her satisfaction, stating, “We didn’t have to pay a fine, which was a really good thing, and I’m really proud of my team for that.”
